QualiCert is Switzerland’s oldest and only independent, privately funded certification body for prevention and exercise programmes, as well as the relevant professionals. Its roots go back to an initiative launched by SWICA in 1996; other health insurers subsequently joined the scheme.
At that time, there was a clear need: an independent, professionally sound body was required to assess which providers were genuinely promoting health and possessed the necessary qualifications. The aim was to establish a uniform, transparent framework for the recognition and reimbursement of prevention services – as a service for health insurers and as a safeguard for policyholders. QualiCert was born out of this need.
Initially operating under the name QUALITOP, later as QualiCert GmbH and today as QualiCert AG, the standards and the processes for verifying them have been continuously refined. The assessment portfolio has grown systematically: from fitness centres and course providers to climbing and bouldering facilities, which were added as a separate category in 2025.
As a leading, independent institution for quality, safety, standardisation and certification, QualiCert has since been building measurable trust – for providers, specialist bodies, health insurers and the public. Our mission: to certify services in such a way that safety and quality are demonstrably guaranteed and continuously improved.
Today, more than 600 gyms, 1,700 providers and 5,000 course instructors place their trust in QualiCert. This makes QualiCert the largest and best-known certification body in Switzerland – the go-to organisation for quality, safety and standardisation of health-promoting prevention and exercise programmes.
Thanks to close collaboration with public authorities, health insurers, professional associations and national and international bodies, we are constantly refining our certification procedures. In this way, we ensure that they meet current practical requirements, remain adaptable and guarantee the highest quality. Our actions are guided by clear strategic objectives – with a focus on excellence, customer benefit and continuous improvement.
